Affiliate commission rates for digital products
Because delivery costs nothing, digital products can support commission rates that would bankrupt a physical store.
20-50% is the standard band, with 30-40% typical for templates and courses. On a $49 product at 30% paid on net, the partner earns about $13 and you keep roughly $31 after platform fees.

Platform fees take $1.72 before commission is calculated. Paying on net at 30% leaves you 67.5% of the sale price — digital margins usually support 30-50% if the partner brings sales you couldn't reach.

Gross or net?
Paying on the net amount after platform and processing fees protects your margin and is the common choice for creators. Whichever you pick, state it plainly in the partner terms so payouts are never disputed.
Rate by partner type
Offer the top of the band to partners with an audience that matches your buyer exactly, and the lower end for broad directories or coupon sites where the sale may have happened anyway.
Pay after the refund window closes — usually 30 days — so you never pay commission on a refunded order.
Questions
- Is 50% commission too much?
- Not necessarily. If the sale would not have happened otherwise, half of a new sale beats all of nothing — provided the partner's traffic doesn't cannibalise your own.
- Should affiliates get a discount code too?
- A small code (10%) helps conversion but stacks with commission, so subtract both before deciding the rate. The calculator shows the margin left.
