Launch plan

Idea to first paid sale in four weeks

Most launches stall because the product, the price and the listing get built in the wrong order. This is the sequence that ships: pick, build, take payment, sell — one week each.

  1. Week 1

Pick one product you can finish

    • Choose the single deliverable your audience already asks you for — a template, a preset pack, a workbook.
    • Write the outcome sentence before you build: who it is for, and what they have after using it.
    • Set the price ladder now (entry, main, premium) so scope stops expanding.
  2. Week 2

Build the file and the listing together

    • Ship editable source files, a readme and a plain commercial licence — that trio is most of your perceived value.
    • Write the listing while you build: what's inside, what it saves, who it is not for.
    • Take three screenshots that show the product in use, not just the cover.
  3. Week 3

    Set up checkout and delivery

    • Wire real card and wallet payments, then test one live purchase end to end.
    • Confirm the receipt email carries a download link that still works a week later.
    • Publish a free sample so visitors can try before they pay.
  4. Week 4

Launch to a small list, then keep selling

    • Send three emails: the problem, the product, the last call — not one announcement.
    • Add the bundle above your main tier on launch day; bundles carry most launch revenue.
    • Turn the launch content into evergreen pages so search keeps sending buyers after week 4.

Digital product launch questions

How long does it really take to launch a digital product?

Four weeks of focused part-time work is realistic for a single template, preset pack or workbook: one week to scope it, one to build the file and the listing, one to wire payments and delivery, one to sell it to a small list. Launches slip when the product, the price and the listing get built in the wrong order.

What should I price my first digital product at?

Start with a three-tier ladder rather than one number: an entry file around $19-$29, a main pack at $39-$79, and a bundle above it. The bundle usually carries most of launch-day revenue, and having the ladder set before you build stops the scope from expanding.

Do I need an audience before launching?

No, but you need a list you can email three times. A few hundred engaged subscribers converts better than a large passive following. Publish a free sample so visitors can try the file before paying, then follow up by email.

What do I need to take payments?

Card and wallet payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link), a receipt email that carries a download link still valid a week later, and one live test purchase end to end before launch day.
