Questions
- Which platform keeps the most of my money?
- Marketplace fees (Gumroad, Etsy) are the highest per sale but come with built-in traffic. Selling from your own store costs card processing only, but you supply the visitors. The calculator shows the crossover point for your volume.
- Do these fees include payment processing?
- Yes. Gumroad's 10% and Etsy's rates bundle processing; the own-store and Shopify rows use standard Stripe/Shopify Payments card rates of 2.9% + $0.30.
- What about sales tax and VAT?
- Merchant-of-record platforms (Lemon Squeezy, and Gumroad in most regions) collect and remit tax for you. On your own store you're responsible for registering and filing where required.
